I never much cared for the Magnolia Electric Company stuff, though I might well change my mind about this. I change my mind pretty often. However, I do love some of the songs. Someone gave me a cd of Jason Molina playing one of the albums solo. It's just him, with a guitar, sounding like it's recorded straight to tape, and I much prefer this cd to the official releases. The songs are so beautiful. Here, I sing Just be Simple, which like Being In Love is one of Molina's sweetest sounding tunes, solo with acoustic guitar. It seemed like a good idea to keep it simple.

This is one of the strongest albums by Stanley Brinks and this alone speaks volumes about its quality and merits, since Mr. Brinks's material is always great. The Wave Pictures are doing a terrific job as his backing band and the results are simply breathtaking. This has so many merits that a simple review can not cover. His voice sax and guitar sound is distinctive, yet I find that fans of Hefner, Jonathan Richman, Velvet Underground, Violent Femmes will certainly enjoy this immensely. Vassilis Gonis
